Kite workshop in Kota Bharu

With our Kota Bharu innkeepers as our guides, we visited some traditional Malay craft workshops. This area is known for having preserved many of these techniques, including ktie making, batik, silversmithing, weaving and top spinning. Here Scott is, waving the noise maker that is part of a traditional Malay kite. It makes a sound similar to what you hear when blowing on a blade of grass, although much more resonant. Kites are judged, partly, based on how good they sound when flying.
